Ductia’s history reaches back into 1984: It was then that its founding members Anne Bredemeier and Christiane Thiemt first met during a summer class for renaissance music in Bad Zwischenahn, Lower Saxony. But it was still a long way to go before their first public performances together and before they had the idea of founding a renaissance consort. Five years after this first meeting and after having met at several music classes in Germany and Austria their first appearance took place in 1989.
The name Ductia, which originates in a 13th century bicinium of an unknown composer, was found in 1995, replacing the name “Duo für Alte Musik” (Duo of Early Music).
The consort is feeling a close attachment to this piece of music, simply due to the fact that it was part of their concerts from very early on. But even more so, because it is pointing out the musical era which has always been the consort’s first choice. The main focus of their first programs was the medieval music and renaissance music, but also early baroque and baroque music.
In the year 1997 Corinna Kistner joined the consort after having played together with Anne Bredemeier at ”Sine Nomine”, a recorder consort from Oldenburg. In 1999 the brothers Ulrich and Hartwig Alpers from Esslingen, who have attended many summer classes together with Ductia’s founding members since 1987, had completed the consort. Unfortunately, the long distance between Oldenburg and Esslingen made the rehearsing - although always pleasurable and successful - rather complicated, so that the brothers decided to quit the consort in 2005.
Replacements had quickly been found, though, with Meike Bruns-Claassen and Sandra Schütte, who had already played in the “Ensemble für Alte Musik Westerstede” with Anne Bredemeier. After an intensive rehearsing period the new formation presented itself for the first time im September 2006 participating in a concert in St. Petri, Westerstede.
The quintet is thus now complete again with Anne Bredemeier, Corinna Kistner, Christiane Thiemt, Meike Bruns-Claassen and Sandra Schütte.
Concerts have so far been played in Bad Zwischenahn, Bremen, Oldenburg, Bochum, Holzkirchen, Esslingen, Delmenhorst, Lüneburg and Westerstede.
Ductia’s instruments are:
- Renaissance Recorders (Garklein, Sopranino, Soprano, Treble, Tenor, Bass)
- Crumhorns (Soprano, Treble, Tenor, Bass)
- Fiddles (Descant, Tenor/Bass)
- Alto Kortholt
- Alto Shawm
- Rauschpfeife
- Percussion
- Voices (Soprano, Mezzo Soprano, Alto)
The one person Ductia will never forget is Wilhelm Roos, the director of the ”Studio für Alte Musik Bad Zwischenahn” (Studio of Early Music Bad Zwischenahn), who has been the very first teacher of this kind of music for Anne Bredemeier and the director of many of the music classes mentioned above, who has always taken an eager interest in the development of the consort and has supplied countless information, material and instruments until his death in April 1998. Without him Ductia would have never come into existence. |
